Public Works Employee Job Opening

The Village of Rockland seeks qualified applicants for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Public Works.  Experience in Water & Sewer operations with a municipality or utility is preferred, but not required. Must have a current CDL.

Job duties will include water and sewer operations, streets and park maintenance and other miscellaneous duties.

Salary to be set by the Village Board based on experience, ability and qualifications.

Job Description

General

  1. Under general supervision of the Village President

  2. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Village public works property buildings, streets, parks, sewer and water construction, repair and maintenance tasks

  3. Must be able to understand and apply verbal and written instructions

  4. Must understand and use safe working practices and avoid working hazards

  5. Must be courteous to public officials, employees, and the public

  6. On call for all emergencies in all departments

  7. Must possess a valid CDL license

 

Streets and Park Maintenance

  1. Snow plowing and removal, including removal from hydrants

  2. Repair streets and maintain alleys as needed

  3. Haul brush and maintain brush and mulch piles

  4. Maintain and operate all Village vehicles and equipment

  5. Mow, trim and spray for weeds in parks, vacant lots, ditches, and any other public land as needed

  6. Maintain and clean shelter houses, including garbage removal

  7. Minor building repair and maintenance, including furnaces

  8. Install street signs as needed

  9. Assist in preparing streets and park budget

  10. All other duties as assigned

 

Water Department

  1. Current Water Operator Certification or willing to become certified

  2. Maintain Operator Certification as required by the WI DNR

  3. Monthly water reports

  4. Take water samples as required by DNR

  5. Install and/or test water meters on demand, and maintain accurate records

  6. Clean and maintain well houses daily

  7. Record pumping data daily

  8. Monitor and adjust chlorine and iron levels in the system daily

  9. Monitor well static and pumping levels

  10. Maintain pumps and motors as required

  11. Flush fire hydrants and perform hydrant maintenance as required

  12. Repair and maintenance of curb stops

  13. Regularly exercise valves in the water system

  14. Locate and mark Digger’s Hotline requests in a timely manner

  15. Perform cross connection inspections as required by DNR

  16. Inspect water tower and check levels daily

 

Wastewater Department

  1. Current Sewer Operator Certification or willing to become certified

  2. Maintain Operator Certification as required by the WI DNR

  3. Take daily and monthly sewer plant readings

  4. Check influent flow daily and keep accurate records

  5. Waste sludge and de-scum on a daily basis

  6. Check all pumps and motors to ensure working properly on a daily basis

  7. Lubricate and grease pumps and motors regularly, as required

  8. Keep treatment plant in a clean and orderly condition

  9. Clean and inspect lift station daily

  10. Exercise the plant generator weekly

  11. Inspect and maintain manholes and sewer mains

  12. Keep sewer lines clean through operation of jetter truck, and use root cutter as needed

  13. Haul sludge to approved field sites

  14. Locate and mark Digger’s Hotline requests in a timely manner
